Volunteering Abroad

Apart from professional training and internship programs, there are plenty of volunteering opportunities for students in various countries. Most of the time students do not receive any payment; however, knowledge and experience gained during such programs are invaluable. Volunteers gain understanding of the foreign culture, language, workplace, and people, which is highly appreciated by the employers in modern world. In addition, life abroad usually demands much flexibility and adoptability, personal endurance and tolerance and many other skills and qualities.

A variety of volunteer organizations offer support to its participants even after the program has ended. Thus, students receive their first experience and practice while being volunteers, and then feel confident when being supported by the administration of the program. Volunteering is a means of helping people achieving at the same time personal growth goals.

Teaching Abroad

Irrespective of the college major or education specialization all English native speakers may teach English abroad as native carrier of the language. Usually a bachelor’s degree is a requirement. Some of the firms may also ask for a TESOL or ESL certificate, which can be obtained in many colleges and schools throughout the US and in Europe as well as online. The teaching abroad experience provides students with an opportunity to receive good salary opportunity, learn a foreign language of a host country, make new friends and improve knowledge in their field of study (if they teach English in the field related to their professional qualifications).

English-speaking students may be interested in teaching in any country they like: from Mexico, Brazil, and Peru to Italy, Russia, Japan, China, Vietnam and Korea. The contracts and teacher requirements differ from country to country and from school to school. Some contracts may provide full air fair reimbursement, which is, however, offered when a TESOL teacher comes for the period of 12 months. Usually, accommodation, insurance and at least part of travel expenses are covered by the host company / school.
